HOW TO IMPROVE THE CURRENT EDUCATIONAL OFFER IN THE COUNTRY, SINCE PRESCHOOL TO UNIVERSITY, TO ENHANCE LIFE QUALITY AND THE ECONOMICAL LEVEL OF COSTA RICAN POPULATION?
description One of the most powerful tools that a country could use to boost socioeconomic growth, is education. In Costa Rica, despite the growing investment to improve the education system in the past decades, there is still a lot of work to do to increase the quality of the academic offer, modernize the infrastructure, update the study plans, and reduce desertion in elementary and high school, and that is the motivation of the present scientific research, which purpose is to find the leading causes and evaluate possible challenges to reduce unemployment. The research methodology applied in this study includes the application of an electronic poll oriented to teachers from preschools to universities, which purpose is to collect their opinion of the current offer and the impact on the life quality of the Costa Rican citizens, considering the recent impact by the COVID-19 pandemic and the low performance in international and local tests. From the poll, 107 replies from teachers of different levels were received. It surpasses the expected sample of 97 responses that correspond to the statistical sample for the total population of 65 000 actives professionals in Costa Rica. In addition, a direct interview was applied to a preschool teacher, who added her perspective and professional criteria to the analysis. The results at the end of the research contributed to generating valuable conclusions and recommendations that hopefully will help to generate an improvement strategy to strengthen the education system in Costa Rica for future generations.

Una de las herramientas más poderosas para impulsar el desarrollo socioeconómico de un país, si no la más importante, corresponde a la educación. En Costa Rica, a pesar del incremento en la inversión para impulsar y modernizar el sistema educativo de las últimas décadas, factores como la calidad de la oferta académica, la obsolescencia de la infraestructura, la desactualización de los planes de estudio y la creciente deserción escolar en niveles de primaria y secundaria, motivan llevar a cabo una investigación que identifique las causas y los retos en un ecosistema fuertemente impactado por el desempleo. La metodología de investigación involucra el sondeo en la población docente desde el nivel de preescolar hasta la formación superior o universitaria, mediante una encuesta en línea, con el propósito de analizar su percepción de la oferta académica actual en Costa Rica, el impacto en la calidad de vida de los costarricenses y los desafíos que se avecinan, así como el impacto de la pandemia por COVID-19, tomando en consideración el bajo desempeño en pruebas nacionales e internacionales de los estudiantes en los últimos periodos. Se obtuvo un resultado de 107 respuestas en la encuesta, lo cual supera la muestra esperada de 97 educadores para ser estadísticamente representativa de la población de más de 65 000 docentes activos en el país, según datos del Estado de la Educación en el 2021. Además, se busca complementar la recolección de datos con la entrevista a una docente experta en educación preescolar que valide o contraste los resultados obtenidos de la encuesta y exponga de manera más detallada un análisis del entorno educativo actual.
